Who are we?

The UK Clearing House Mechanism (UK CHM) for Biodiversity is a website operated by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) on behalf of the UK Government.

JNCC is the public body that advises the UK Government and devolved administrations on UK-wide and international nature conservation. JNCC is the data controller for any personal data collected through the UK CHM website.

What are we collecting and using your information for?

You can make enquiries about the UK CHM by communicating with JNCC through a form on the website or by email and other channels. We will use any personal data you provide, such as your name and email address, where it is relevant for the purpose of responding to your communication and handling any issues raised by your communication.

Our lawful basis for processing of your personal data will be public task, for the purpose of facilitating the sharing of information about how the UK Government fulfils its commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity and is working to meet the the objectives and Aichi targets of the Strategic plan for Biodiversity to 2020.

Where are we storing your information and will we share it?

Your personal data will be stored by JNCC on our internal servers or in secure cloud storage maintained under contract by one of our data processors. We will store your personal data for up to three years from our last contact with you on matters related to the UK CHM.

If necessary we will share your personal data with other UK Government bodies for the purpose of responding to your communication or providing relevant information to you.

As a public authority JNCC may be legally required to release information it holds, including your personal data, on request under the Environmental Information Regulations or the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
