Welcome to the UK Clearing House Mechanism.

The UK Clearing House Mechanism (UK CHM) provides easy access to information about how the United Kingdom (UK) implements the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), its Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. Ultimate responsibility for ensuring the UK fulfils its commitments as a Party to the CBD lies with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the UK Government. This is shared with the devolved Governments for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and with those governments of the Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies to which the CBD has been extended. The UK CHM explains how the different Governments and their respective public bodies work together within the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework


The UK CHM outlines different approaches in the UK, including examples of practical tools that can be used to help meet the objectives and targets of the CBD. It aims to assist users find the relevant information and expertise which will benefit biodiversity globally. The UK CHM will direct users to the websites of the relevant organisations in the UK, where more detailed information can be found, and to the CBD's UK country profile.
