A fellowship scheme funded by charitable donations aimed especially at ensuring that agricultural research brings real benefits to developing countries.

 

The Rothamsted International Fellowship Scheme (RIFS) is a major initiative to share more widely Rothamsted's position as a world class centre of excellence in agricultural and environmental research. RIFS aims to help develop and disseminate technologies relevant to sustainable agricultural growth across the developing world.

 

It is founded on the principle that for agriculture to successfully feed and clothe people in the developing world, it must be sustainable, environmentally benign, and relevant to local needs. RIFS provides long-term investment in the training of future researchers and practitioners in those countries where it is most needed. Funds are used to provide RI Fellowships for visiting overseas scientists.
